About the Sleep Well hostel

For the past 35 years, Sleep Well, the official youth hostel of the City of Brussels, has extended a warm welcome to tourists while also serving as a social project committed to sustainable development. Initially founded in 1978 as a social initiative by Gustave Stoop and the Community of Finistère, the hostel aimed to generate profits to support “SOS Young people,” a center for distressed youth. Over time, Sleep Well evolved to exclusively host young travelers and engaged in diverse social projects, including acquiring the Abbey Saint Gérard de Brogne in the 1980s, which transformed into a regional cultural center. As the first eco-labeled youth hostel in Brussels, Sleep Well actively minimizes its environmental impact through waste management, energy and water conservation, sustainable mobility, and the use of eco-friendly supplies, earning recognition through the ecodynamic label and Green Key international ecolabel.
