11th NYRA Meeting – Opening Registration

Dear NYRA members,

Lisbon

It is our great pleasure to announce the 11th NYRA Meeting, that will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, on May 22nd- 23rd 2018, preceding the 20th European Testis Workshop.

This time we will have exciting lectures by amazing speakers about:

 Signalling pathways in Leydig cells

– Spermatogonial Stem Cells and Spermatogenesis

– Germ-line gene editing

If you want to learn how to improve your communication skills, you should also attend the workshop on:

– Science communication and outreach

And if you want to get to know the other NYRA members better, you should definitely participate in our “Young scientists speed date”.

For further information, please visit our dedicated webpage at http://www.nyra2018.nyra-youngresearch.eu/

The registration is now open: http://nyra-youngresearch.eu/nyra2018-registration/

5th EUROPEAN DOCTORAL COLLEGE ON ENVIRONMENT AND HEALTH

Dear members,

The 5th European Doctoral College on Environment and Health (EDCEH) will be held on June 4-6, 2018 in Rennes, France, on the following topic: Endocrine disruptors: an update.

Taking place every two years in Rennes since 2010, the EDCEH is jointly organized by Irset (Research Institute for Environmental and Occupational Health – Inserm UMR 1085) and EHESP-School of Public Health. This event is open to PhD studentspost-doctoral fellows, as well as to researchers. It aims to promote Environmental Health, at both the research and education levels, in France and in other European countries. Entitled “Endocrine Disruptors: an Update”, the 2018 edition of the EDECH offers an attractive scientific program covering important and relevant aspects of endocrine disruption (see announcement poster and program enclosed herewith).

More than 25 years after the Wingspread Conference, concerns about the potential health threat posed by endocrine disruptors (EDs) are higher than ever. Accumulating data indeed indicate that adverse effects of EDs could largely exceed classical reproduction and fertility endpoints, with lasting effects on development, immune system, endogenous metabolism, cognition, behaviour or carcinogenic processes. This broad spectrum of EDs’ effects clearly illustrates the finely tuned and intricate nature of the many components and layers of the endocrine system.

Research in the field of EDs has also highlighted new paradigms or has reinforced previous ones in the field of toxicology, including low-dose and non-monotonic effects, windows of susceptibility and perinatal imprinting, issues of species-specificities, as well as mixtures and transgenerational effects. The complexity and variety of mechanisms underlying the action of EDs therefore require transdisciplinary and integrated approaches, involving chemists, toxicologists, epidemiologists, bioinformaticians and risk assessors to work together in order to better evaluate exposure to EDs, predict their impact on wildlife, ecosystems and humans and design specific regulatory tests for these compounds.

In this context, the 2018 edition of the EDCEH will address key issues related to endocrine disruption, including:

– Definition of EDs within the regulatory context.
– Emerging approaches for assessing the exposure to EDs.
– Models and (non-)standard tests for endocrine disruption.
– Innovative methods and predictive tools to investigate endocrine disruption.

The Scientific Committee invites you to submit abstracts on original works for an oral communication or for a poster presentation. Some of the abstracts will be selected for a 15-minute oral presentation and the authors will be notified by e-mail. Each participant can submit only one abstract.

Deadline for Abstract Submission:
– Submission of abstracts: Friday, 20 April 2018
– Notification of acceptance for an oral communication or a poster: Friday, 27 April 2018.

General Rules for Abstracts:
– Title, keywords and text in Abstract and Poster must be in English.
– No figures, graphics, or references should be in the text; these must be included in the final presentation/poster only.
– Maximum abstract length: 300 words.
– Abstract must contain the following items: Title, Author names and Affiliation.
– Write title in Arial 12 pt bold and other words in Arial 10 pt.
– Email contact.

Oral Communications:
Four abstracts will be selected for a 15-minute oral presentation by the Scientific Committee. Two communications will be presented at the end of each scientific session, on Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 June. Travel expenses and registration fees for the PhD students and/or Post-docs who are selected for an oral communication will be covered by the organizers.

Poster Sessions:
Other abstracts will be selected for a poster presentation on Tuesday, 5 June. You will be invited to summarize your poster during an oral “Flash” presentation” (3 minutes). Please note that an accepted abstract cannot be included in the Final Program unless the presenting author holds a complete registration (including payment).

Poster Design:
The size of the poster must not exceed 90 cm wide x 120 cm high.
Allocate the top of the poster for the title and authors as stated on the submitted abstract. The text and the illustrations should be bold enough to be read from a distance of two meters.

Submission
Send your abstract by email to Aurore GELY-PERNOT | Aurore.GELY-PERNOT@ehesp.fr.

This college is a very good opportunity, notably for PhD students, to present ongoing work and to freely and fruitfully exchange with the scientific community in this field.

We sincerely hope that you will consider to come in Rennes for the 5th EDCEH. Detailed information for registration and abstract submission can be found on our website: https://edceh.univ-rennes1.fr/

Looking forward to hearing from you and to meeting you in Rennes.
